Managing Substations in the Power Systems of the Future – Trends in Technology, Design, Materials and Diagnostics

Cigre Study Committees B3 (Substations) and  SC D1 (Materials and Emerging Test Techniques) will hold their 2013 Colloquium and Study Committee meetings, and associated working group meetings, in Brisbane Australia, from 8 - 13 September 2013.

The theme of the Colloquium is “Managing Substations in the Power Systems of the Future – Trends in Technology, Design, Materials and Diagnostics”.  It is aimed at aligning with CIGRE’s major focus on Power Systems of the Future.

The structures of electric power systems face significant changes with the growing implementation of distributed and renewable generation, smart grids and bulk transmission networks. In addition to the expansion of networks in developing countries, there is also a demand for the renewal and expansion of existing networks in highly developed industrial countries where many of the network elements have reached the end of their service life, and demand for electrical power continues to grow. These changes are occurring at a time of public concern at the cost of electricity, acceptance of infrastructure, and impact on the environment.  These conflicting challenges are best met through the employment of best practices in the adoption of new technology, design, materials, and diagnostic practices and maintenance of electrical networks.

The colloquium will bring together leading international and national experts in the fields of substations, high voltage materials, equipment testing and diagnostics.  It will provide an opportunity for delegates to be exposed to international trends and practices, and to participate in discussions with paper authors and invited speakers in panel sessions.

The colloquium will be supported by workshops and tutorials on current issues in substation technology, design, materials and diagnostics.

The deadline for Abstract submissions is 28 February, 2013.  Submission of papers is required by 30 June 2013.
