AIM OF THE CONFERENCE

The aim of the Conference is to provide a platform to address challenges and opportunities that the rapidly evolving electricity supply industry is facing in the region today and into the future. It is also a forum for the developments in the international activities of the various Cigré Study Committees to be communicated in Southern Africa. This year, the regional conference will be preceded by tutorials, and a joint colloquium of Study Committees C1 (System Development and Economics), C2 (System Control and Operation) and C5 (Electricity Markets and Regulation)

LOCATION

The 7th Cigré Southern Africa Regional Conference will be held in the winelands of the Western Cape at the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West

KEY DATES

Monday 7th October will be devoted to tutorials. The 8th October will be dedicated to a joint C1 (System Development and Economics), C2 (System Control and Operation) and C5 (Electricity Markets and Regulation) colloquium.

The regional conference will be held on Wednesday and Thursday with post conference tours on Friday 11th October.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVE

The objective of the Conference is to provide a platform to address challenges and opportunities that the rapidly evolving electricity supply industry is facing in the region today and into the future

_ Operating with increased HVDC facilities

_ Managing rapid changes in demand

_ Generation, transmission and distribution – modelling, simulations and design

_ Smart technologies to support evolving power systems

_ Smart maintenance practices (condition monitoring, asset management, etc.)

_ New challenges and opportunities in protection and control
