Cigré, the world forum for power systems

July 2018

Words from the President

Dear Cigreans,

Robert STEPHEN - CIGRE President

A large amount of work and effort is being undertaken by the Central Office and the Steering Committee in preparation for the Paris session in August.  This is the flagship event of CIGRE and registrations to date indicate it will be as large or larger than the event in 2016. New items in the Session include a CEO event where over 100 CEO’s will be informed of the benefits of CIGRE to their organisations and can engage with other CEO’s who have benefited from CIGRE.  We also have Next Generation Network and Women In Engineering forums with interesting guest speakers. For those that have not attended the Session in the past it is important to realise that the Paris Session is in fact 16 parallel conferences with Open sessions being held daily for various Study Committees. There are also Study Committee, Technical and Administrative meetings that are held as well as many of the 230 Working Groups meetings. There will be 16 Tutorial sessions during the week as well.  It is therefore a very busy and perhaps confusing week.  This requires a great deal of planning prior to the event so that you are aware of what to attend to obtain the maximum benefit. Note that no papers are presented and the Open sessions discuss the Special reporter’s questions relating to the papers. It is critical that you read the papers, study the special reporter’s questions and, where possible, submit contributions to maximize your participation.

With adequate planning it is possible that the Paris Session can benefit your technical knowledge far in excess of any other event or conference.

I look forward to meeting you there.

Robert STEPHEN - CIGRE President
