Cigré, the world forum for power systems

Words from the Secretary General

Dear Readers,

Since the last newsletter of March the various projects managed by the Central Office have progressed.

The membership management tool is now operational for more than 50% of the National Committees, which means that there are still National Committees that have not started yet to implement the new tool. I hope they will be convinced soon to use the online solutions we have developed.

Technical decisions have been made regarding the collaborative tool solution to be adopted, in order to facilitate the works of the Study Committees and Working Groups in their activities of production of Technical Brochures and Reports. The target is to have 5 Working Groups in each of the 16 Study Committees using this solution by the end of the year, and a roll out for 130 additional Working Groups in 2016.

The other projects, i.e. the improvement of the technical library “e-Cigre”, the choice of paper review and selection process solution and the new CIGRE event registrations tool have progressed mainly in terms of expression of the needs.

For the first time in the history of CIGRE, a joint meeting of both the Steering Committee and the Technical Committee will take place in connection with their annual spring meetings.

These meetings will be in Tokyo where the Japanese National Committee has accepted to host this important event from 4th to 8th May.

The joint meeting will allow the members of both Governing Bodies to share their views and to exchange ideas on CIGRE future. The objective is to better understand and clarify their respective roles, and to define a way to ensure that the organization will always point in the right direction.

To stimulate the exchange of ideas, six workshops including members from both bodies will be organized around subjects like, marketing, communication and publications, projection of CIGRE 10 years from now, how to better address distribution issues, or external relationships & positioning.

For its annual meeting, the agenda of the Steering Committee will include a review of CIGRE strategic Plan, the presentation of the financial results of 2014, the renewal of Study Committee Chairmen in 2016 and the publication and marketing strategy.

As usual in its spring meeting, the Technical Committee will consider the Study Committees activity reports and review some of their strategic plans. An important part of the agenda will be dedicated to the preparation of the technical part of the 2016 Session, including the general program, the opening panel, the EPEE panel, and the workshop on large incidents on electric networks and electricity markets.

To have more information on the recent CIGRE publications, Working Group creations, and close CIGRE events, I invite you to read the followings lines.

Best regards,

Philippe ADAM

Secretary General
