Cigré, the world forum for power systems

November 2016

Words from the Secretary General

Dear Readers,

I am pleased to inform you that the 2016 Session satisfaction survey results are very encouraging for our Association.

36% of the delegates have responded, and I would like to thank them for their contribution.

97% of the delegates who responded are globally satisfied or very satisfied, and 93% have the intention to attend the 2018 Session (37% certainly and 56% probably), which can be considered as a good performance.

The top three answers on the satisfaction regarding the organisation of the event are the courtesy of CIGRE staff (96%), the location and lay-out of the exhibition (95%), and the organisation of the meetings (95%).

Regarding the services proposed at the Session, the top three most appreciated by the delegates were the Internet counters (96%), the new WIFI (93%), and the CIGRE application for smartphone and tablets (93%).

The survey has also captured many suggestions for the next Session, and the first three most cited are the quality of the discussions by deepening them, and perhaps reducing their number, the increase of the number of tutorials, and the reduction of the cost of attendance.

The Technical Council and Central Office will make all efforts to take into consideration all of the suggestions received, in order to decide on improvements in the preparation of the 2018 Session.

Prior to the Session, the Technical Council reviewed and updated its vision of the Electricity supply systems of the future, and a new flyer has been distributed to the delegates. It is now available on the CIGRE website.

The future of the power system is the topic of the next CIGRE Symposium that will take place in Dublin (Ireland) at the end of May 2017, focusing on what has been done so far: “Experiencing the future power system … today”.

126 paper synopses have been received for this symposium, as well as 22 poster proposals for the dedicated poster session that will be run in parallel with the symposium for student papers. This material is being reviewed by the Study Committees involved.

Based on a suggestion of the Young Members Network, we have reformatted the CIGRE calendar of events, and we hope it will be a useful tool for our members, based on the information on future events they want to share.

The CIGRE Green Book series is enriched with a new title: “Utility Communication Networks and Services” prepared by Study Committee D2. This book, presented at the Session, starts a new sub-series "CIGRE Compact Studies" to satisfy the need of some Study Committees for a more concise book format covering a specific subject from the scope of a Study Committee.

I now invite you to have a look at the other information available in this November newsletter.

Best regards,

Philippe ADAM

Secretary General
