Distribution in a transforming grid
Across the world the energy
transition is transforming
distribution networks
Through the emergence of
bi-directional power flow, DER, demand
side dynamics and more, distribution
organisations are increasingly faced
with system operation challenges
that require specialised expertise and
collaboration.
The challenge is no longer just maintaining reliability.
It is about understanding, operating, and designing a
future-ready grid, in an environment where coordination
with other key players in the wider power system, is a
necessity.

CIGRE meets this need with it’s apolitical, technically neutral, and friendly environment. This provides distribution professionals with a space to engage openly with experts from every part of the power system, without attending distant events and incurring the cost that involves.
CIGRE’s culture, ensures meaningful technical exchange, in the context of a unique worldwide community of national organisations, covering over 90 countries. This enables professionals to both draw on global knowledge while interacting with local colleagues, on local issues, in the language of their jurisdiction. All without commercial pressure or policy agendas.
We are seeing strong growth in participation from the distribution community, with experts increasingly contributing to CIGRE’s 250+ working groups, publications and technical events. Medium-voltage systems, are a rapidly growing focus of our work, reflecting the central role distribution plays in the energy transition.
