Recent Advancements in Technology and Applications of Synchrophasor Measurements

Tue, Apr 21, 2026 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM CEST
As modern power systems evolve with increasing penetration of renewable generation, energy storage, and electric vehicle loads, real-time monitoring has become essential for maintaining system stability, reliability, and operational efficiency. Synchrophasor technology, with its precisely time-synchronized and high-resolution measurements, enables advanced applications such as wide-area monitoring, data analytics, control, and model validation. This webinar will present an overview of the CIGRE Technical Brochure “Recent Advancements in Technology and Applications of Synchrophasor Measurements,” developed by JWG C4/C2.62. The session will highlight recent developments in synchrophasor system architectures, data integration frameworks, and practical and emerging industry applications. The webinar will elaborate on several synchrophasor applications, including collaborative initiatives by Nordic TSOs to enhance grid visibility, oscillation monitoring and renewable energy system performance assessment, and practical methods for real-time inertia monitoring using ambient measurements. Emerging developments in synchronized waveform monitoring and their potential applications will also be discussed.
This webinar is presented by Dr. Athula Rajapakse, convener of CIGRE Working Group C4/C2.62, together with Dr. Kjetil Uhlen, Mr. Chandan Kumar, Dr. Krish Narendra, & Dr. Steven Blair members of this JWG. Their Technical Brochure 975 (available on.e-cigre.org), was published in 2025.
